ADIDAS OLYMPIC SHOES
FEATURE BAYER COATING
The new adipure line of shoes from
adidas, which were on display at the
London 2012 Olympic Games, use a
textile coating based on a
polyurethane dispersion from Bayer
Material Science’s Impranil range.
The shoes are designed to support
natural running through a rolling
motion over the metatarsus and
forefoot. The coated upper material of
the shoe envelops the foot seamlessly
like a second skin, offering high
resilience. According to Bayer, it
braces the foot without restricting
freedom of movement.
P3 TECHNOLOGY GIVES
TEVASPHERE COLLECTION
THE EDGE
Outdoor brand Teva has launched
its new TevaSphere collection, which
features a new spherical heel and pod-
arch system.
The technology, developed in
collaboration with sports science and
human performance institute P3 (Peak
Performance Project), offers a more
natural point of impact, efficient
transition and stability on diverse
terrains.
The pod-arch system is said to
provide specific support only where
needed, so it still offers freedom of
movement and lightweightness.
"The majority of consumers
continue to land on their heels
whether running or walking," said
Chris Hillyer, Innovation Manager at
Teva. "We felt compelled to create a
technology that allows people to
transition through their stride in a
natural way without expecting the
consumer to change."
Geoffrey Gray, doctor of physical
therapy at P3, said: "We took our
testing beyond the traditional flat
environments of a lab and developed a
way to test both uphill and downhill
movements, mimicking the various
terrains of the outdoors.
"Our extensive data showed that the
TevaSphere represents the best
combination of performance and
stability of any hiking, walking or
running shoe we tested."
The
TevaSphere
outsole
is
composed of Spider365 Rubber, which
provides good traction on various
terrains.

NEW HUNTSMAN TPU
PRODUCT SUITS SAFETY
SHOES
Supplier of polyurethanes (PUs) to
the footwear industry Huntsman has
launched a new plasticiser-free, soft
thermoplastic polyurethane (TPU),
Avalon 60 AE-ESD.
The
new
TPU
will
give
manufacturers the bonding strength
and mechanical properties required
to make high-quality footwear,
particularly safety shoes with electro-
static dissipation (ESD) features on
roundtable machines, the company
said at the time of the launch.
Avalon
AE-ESD
TPU
was
developed to meet growing market
demand for a soft footwear outsole
capable of reaching a hardness of 60
Shore A. The zero-plasticiser
solution can offer improved speed
and strength of bonding to suitable
PU midsole materials, typically used
in double-density constructions.
“Extensively tested and proven for production of all types of high-quality
footwear, Avalon 60 AE-ESD TPU is suited to the rigorous demands of the
safety footwear sector,” Huntsman said. “Combining softness with flexural
strength, it is designed to make shoes that are comfortable yet hard-
wearing enough to withstand challenging conditions. It also fulfils the
exacting requirements of safety shoe standard DIN EN ISO 20345.”
