LOUBOUTIN CREATES 20CM HIGH BALLET SHOES

French footwear designer Christian Louboutin has designed a pair of 20cm high, Swarovski encrusted ballet shoes to raise funds for the English National Ballet.

The unusual ‘super cigarette’ heel was made by Mr Louboutin for specialised dancers to apparently carry out their skilful profession with ease.

“The heel makes dancers closer than any other women to the sky,” he said. “Closer to heaven!” The stilettos were part of a ballet-themed auction called the Summer Party Silent Auction, held in Kensington Palace, London on 29 June, 2011.

TWO NIKE DIRECTORS RESIGN

Nike directors Jill Conway and Ralph DeNunzio have decided to retire from the the board and not stand for re-election at the annual meeting of shareholders in September 2011.

Ms Conway joined Nike’s board in 1987 and serves as chair of the board’s corporate responsibility committee. She is also a member of its nominating and corporate governance committee. Mr DeNunzio joined the board in 1988 and serves as chair of the board’s compensation and nominating and corporate governance committees. He is also a member of its finance committee. “For more than two decades,

we’ve been privileged to have both Jill Conway and Ralph DeNunzio as key leaders of our board. They have provided valuable insight and contributions and I’m extremely grateful for the leadership they have brought to Nike over the years,” said chairman of the board Philip Knight.

TOD’S MAKES CULTURAL PROJECTS PLEDGE

Tod’s luxury footwear brand has pledged to pay € 5.2 million over five years to help fund Milan’s La Scala opera house. The company has also pledged money to restoration projects for the Colosseum in Rome

and the ancient town of Pompeii. One of the Tod’s owners, Diego Della Valle, said on announcing the donation to La Scala that other private-sector firms should take similar steps because of cuts in public funding for Italy’s cultural institutions.

TOMS DONATES 1 MILLION PAIRS OF SHOES

California-based footwear brand Toms Shoes, together with charity World Vision, has announced that it has given away at least one million pairs of new footwear to children in poor communities.
